Holler for a Dolla’

18. July 2006 | Category Observations

Having partaken in the great Minnesota tradition of the neigborhood consignment auction, today cannot be considered a waste. Where else can you own all the contents of a far corner of a hay rack for $1? And to think some guy had it as his life’s ambition to collect and sort all those various screws and bolts for $1 as well.

As there is always a find at auction, me and the brother didn’t come away empty-handed. But I think that’s the whole point of going…. or is it to discuss world politics with the farmer from down the way.

Who knows.

Google-tastic

6. July 2005 | Category My Websites, Observations, Personal

Just searching through stats and found a phrase that someone had put into Google and ended up on my site. The odd thing was that it was the phrase feel free to contact me.

Not so odd, but to have the number one search result for that phrase seemed humorous. Obviously I’m easy to contact, but alas I don’t even have a cellphone glued to my ear.

I even have a screenshot to preserve this momentous feat!

feel free to contact me

Keeps on Ticking

7. May 2005 | Category Observations, Personal

For joy!

I have once again found a watch that I had purchased shortly after I began college in 1998. This might not be a big thing, but this particular watch has been lost a few times on my part since then and I have always found it again. I’ve had to replace the band. This all for a cheap $10 timepiece from Walmart.

But what is more odd/interesting is that the watch still has the same battery it had when I bought it. I think that’s a record of some sort. Close to 7 years on the same battery? Yeah, pretty remarkable. No, it isn’t a solar watch either. It’s only acts up a bit once in a while when it gets wet, which is dumb, because it sports a “water resistance” to 30 meters, but I highly doubt that would work real well now.

Apocalyptic Boredom

26. April 2005 | Category Celebrity, Observations

Having just got done watching The Day after Tomorrow, I really started to wonder if there could ever really be such a thing as a good apocalyptic movie. I still have the horror that was Deep Impact deeply imbedded in my brain, but yet I was drawn like a moth to the flame. That and the superb body of work the Jake Gyllenhaal is putting together. But the director was the same genius behind Independence Day and Godzilla. So suffice to say, I should have known it sucked, I think they even say that he director these other duds on the DVD case. Silly to ignore such warnings.

All these movies ever do is make the impending doom of the world’s imminent demise the only real story, but it’s so large and grandeous of a problem that everything else gets dropped or faked for the sake of the doom. Sure the end of the world we currently know it would be horrific, but can’t they try to entertain you at least. Indepedance Day at least attempted that and even the most memborable sinking of a commerical cruiseliner Titanic made for a decent movie, not to mention a huge payday for those involved.

And the awesome CGI work the gets generated by these apocalyptic doosies is enough to stop watching as soon as it plays out pitifully as well. Who would believe cartoonish wolves would be so troublesome? You almost half expect them to start talking as they so badly out of place in the movie.

This movie didn’t suprise me, but after hearing people said they watched it and didn’t feel like they wanted to gouge their eyes out with dull spoons, I gave it a chance. I don’t think this genre will ever get my attention again. It’s just that bad.
