So, I’ve finally taken the plunge.

Over the weekend I scored a long desired DVD burner, the True 8x by Memorex. I’d figured on waiting until prices were somewhere in the neigborhood of $80 and at least a 8x speed burner. Well, I got the speed, but paid a premium for the drive. (Or at least in my view) For some reason, I bought the media before the drive; eeriely similar to buying my first CD (Tim McGraw’s – Not a Moment Too Soon).

I’m not sure if the system can bear the load required to successfully burn an actual working DVD. I’m worried about the prices of mistakes as well, with blanks running at $1+, it’s an awfully expensive coaster! Wish they’d kill off a few formats too, all the new DVD lingo makes one head spin. Do you get the plus or minus burner (go for all-in-one), which media (-r,+r,-rw,+rw), what size (5gb,9gb, or bigger) and which laser (trusty ol’ red or the new blu-ray)????

Just give me my Betamax and leave me alone!
