AWSTATS

6. January 2005 | Category My Websites

Funny how the change in the new year only brought a problem to this website, or namely my secretive plan to monitor all those who view any pages on michaelpiotter.com. My log file analyzer AWSTATS kicked out before the new year. I finally tracked down the problem to the way dates/weeks are recognized (See help).

Had an inkling it had something to do with the calendar year ending, but wasn’t quite sure. After firing an email to 1and1 (anything but excellent support) they said they couldn’t find the missing file that AWSTATS said it was missing when I tried updating it. Well DUH, anyone that can ftp can do that thank you very much! So I decided someone else on the ‘Net had had this experience and lo and behold I found the answer.

Lesson learned? Maybe. But now I’m happy to track all the unsuspecting viewers of this site. Oh and while searching for answers to my problem, I was suprised I actually got a mention from Michael, whom I had contacted about getting AWSTATS installed correctly on 1and1 in the first place. Networking rules!

Black is Depressing?

30. November 2004 | Category My Websites

Recently got feedback that my website needs to be more ‘happy’!?!? Hm… black and neon green just don’t jump out as happy and exciting I guess. I thought I had read somewhere that a background in either black/white is bold and effective. Having done white for a good chunk of time and thinking white looked dirty and boring, one naturally considers the dark side of the color spectrum. And I think the shade of green I’ve implemented is a nice constrast as well to the utter blackness. I’ve always liked blue, but it doesn’t have the visibility a neon green does.

So what was I advised to do? Emoticons and awesome psychedelic backgrounds with lots of pictures and colors. Kinda the opposite of what I got now. Hm… and this was from a 13 year old kid. Is he onto something or just kidding? I may revamp some un-happy areas of the site as a result. Damn kids!

Humour me with your names, 10-4?

6. March 2004 | Category My Websites

Been playing around with a ‘social bookmarking’ system at del.icio.us. I’m not sure what use it is. I always could just upload my favorites to a webpage to keep myself in touch with myself when away from homebase, but what’s so ‘delicious’ about that?

Gosh, all this food talk has made me hungry, maybe I’ll go grab an Apple!

Also the endless fascination with trucker lingo has lead me to confirm that your 10-35, 10-30.

10-7, 10-21, Over and OUT!

This craze is taking off

9. February 2004 | Category My Websites

Finally convinced Mr. Vogel to try his hand at webpage construction and Movabletype blogs. He seems to enjoy it and probably knows more about the fun stuff happening behind the scenes anyway. So without further ado, his webpage and his weblog.
