The elimination of my people

2. March 2004 | Category Genealogy

Having done some research into the family tree, it was bound to wind back to the old country. I was horrified to learn that citizens living in Pomerania, once a proud part of Prussia, but now assimilated into Poland were forced out of their homes and homeland after cessation of hostilities in WWII. As history stands today, Germany declared war on Poland and pretty much the rest of the world at the time, not Prussia which it soon assimilated into it’s vision of a greater German empire. Did Slavs kick out all the natives out of Austria, just because they were part of the German cause?

I guess history is written by the winners, but what has Poland ever won? They’ve been eliminated as a country on three seperate occasions and still seems to exist for some reason. I guess Russia and Germany needed a mutual punching bag other than each other; what better than to throw Poland in between these two powers.

It just sucks that members of my family were used as such political pawns. Maybe that’s why I’ve always found dumb polock jokes funny.
